Wyeast Bohemian Lager

Post by MadBrewer »

For my Lagers I think this has become my all purpose Lager yeast. I have used it on several different lagers and depending on recipe and mash temps you can get it to go a lot of different ways. I love the rich malt character and crisp clean profile. I am working on my 4th generation of it now on a Yuengling Clone from the same original pitch. Ive used it mostly at 48-50*. Anyone else like this strain or what might be your go to Lager strain?

I've used the Wyeast 2124 Bohemian Lager and the Wyeast 2000 Budvar Lager for the only lagers I've done. I would really like to split a batch and compare the same batch using the 2 yeasts because both came out very clean and tasty.

I used the process recommended in Brewing Classic Styles and Pitched at 44f then brought the temp up to 50f over the next 48 hours. As recommended by the book I did not perform a diacetyl rest and it really was not necassary.

I really the BubVar strain. I use it a lot 'cause it reminds my dad of home. He is from Germany.
