Keilia's IPL

Post by Beer-lord »

Never having done one and not doing a true lager in 2 years, I was anticipating this and it did not disappoint. Ron, the carb was spot on....no worries on your bottling from the keg. The pic does not do this justice but it's crystal clear!!!!!
It was almost too cold for me and the first sip was less flavorful but just a few minutes after sitting, I got what I needed (nea, what I deserved on Homebrew Day!). There isn't a whole lot of nose, the smell is clean and slightly fruity. The taste has a very slight up front bite but the finish is smooth and pilsner like. It's a nice and low humid day of 81 and this one is perfect as I enjoy the yard and the beautiful spring day......perhaps the final days of spring here.
Ron, always a joy to share beers with you.

Looks good!
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

Glad you liked it, sir. I was thinking about keg hopping this one like I did before but I'm going to just leave it as-is. I think it's a nice change-of-pace drinker.

Well, I hate to be to one to say something bad about this beer, but here goes.

MY GLASS IS ALMOST FRIKIN EMPTY!
There I've said it.
It's bitter, it's crisp, it's clear, it's a thirst quencher. Poured read though clear, slight citrus/flora on the nose. A nice bitter catches you up front and rides till the crisp end.

And with that said, my glass is now empty. :(

Thanks Ron, that was the shinning light on my nothing went right Monday. :clink:

Hahaha, you totally had me on that. I thought you got a flat bottle or didn't like the hops or something similar.

That's funny. Sorry your Monday sucked and glad it was made just a tad better with a beer.

Just finished cutting the grass. I have a nice plate of cheese and crackers in front of me and I'm watching the Cavs and Bulls game. And to add to the enjoyment, I have a glass of this IPL in front of me also. OH MY, THIS IS SO GOOD.

It poured almost crystal clear, just a slight haze. The flavor and aroma are fantastic. And it has just the right amount of hop bite to it. It's a perfect combination of an IPA and a lager/pilsner. You get the IPA flavor and aroma up front, then it finished smooth and crisp like a pilsner.

I'm going to be like Inkleg in about 10 minutes.....pissed that my glass is empty.

You're my brewing hero Ron. Thanks for sending this.

That's an awesome picture! Glad you liked it, too. I'll check my notes to make sure I do it right and post the recipe for this one (I need to verify that nothing changed from the original post).

Also happy to provide the BeerSmith file to anybody that is interested in it.

Color me interested.
I've not made a true lager in a long while and with my freezerator (that's the best I can do at my age) it's much easier.

Cross-posting so anybody that wants the recipe can find it. It's in the Advanced Recipes section on this page - although the recipe is quite simple.

Cheers.
