I"m a small LHBS

Post by Beer-lord »

Just checked my stock before I go to my LHBS tomorrow for Sunday's Stone Levitation brew.
I've got more stuff than I thought. Just under 50lbs of 2 row.
Various size amounts of 10L, 20L, 40L, 60L 75L, 120L, 150L, Biscuit, lots of Munich, some Carapils, White Wheat, Roasted Barley, Carafa II & III, Black Patent,

All I don't have is the 007 yeast but I'm just going with US04 instead as I don't have time to make a good starter and I've been happier with dry yeast in the hot months.

Do you really want me to list them?
Got 2 lbs of Simcoe, 2 Centenial, 2 Cascades, 1 Amarillo, various amounts of Citra, Experimental, Chinook, Crystal, Columbus and more. I'm not buying hops for awhile.

Guess I'm a slacker. I only have about 30lbs of assorted grains and maybe 20lbs of LME. Maybe one pound of hops. But I have half a ton each of old Cordoba parts, hand tools, bronze boat hardware, and three small boats in my basement/garage. Not including inflatables.

You don't sound like a slacker to me. Thats' still a good inventory. Any time you have enough stock for 2-3 5 gallon brews tells me you're prepared.

Consider me unprepared then. I buy grains as I need them, I don't stock up. It's only burned me once when I wanted to brew and couldn't get to my LHBS, though.

I guess I just don't want to invest the space for storage but I think it's great that you guys have stuff on hand so you can brew on a moment's notice.

Yes, space is a huge problem for me and I have a decent size house. We have an extra fridge and I own half of the freezer in that fridge. All grain and brewing hardware goes in my small, home office. I'm maxed out.
My LHBS is about 20 minutes away. Not too bad but there, back and purchase time would be an hour. Again, not too bad but if I can cut that down to once a month or so. Plus, I do save buying in bulk.
Finally, I have a brewing problem and need help.

Thanks Beer-Lord! Can some-one tell my mom that I'm not a slacker? She thinks I waste all my time sailing and drinking!
I do keep stuff for brewing opportunities, and actually just came from an LHBS. I bought more than half of my current stock Friday. I don't really plan my brewdays in advance. More like: it's raining, Jane is working, I'm brewing. Or: nothing on TV (big surprise!) I'll make an extract batch. So I need stuff on hand in case I decide to brew at 9pm.

I've got nothing but hops in the freezer at the moment. I need to go to my LHBS stat.

Dang, srsly! All I've got is some washed yeast in the fridge. Any grains and hops that I have in my stock is just the exact amounts of ingredients for brewing the pale ale when my Belma hops come in.
