Great Beer/drinking movies

Post by jpsherman »

Your friends are coming over with home brew, good craft beer, or a whole damn keg. What movie/s would you pick to watch or just have on in the background while you play poker or bullshit?

Here are a couple of my less obvious picks:

"Strange Brew" Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Canada, 80's, need I say more?

"Grabbers" Its streamable on Netflix. Blood sucking alien besieges isolated Irish island. Local cops realize alcohol is toxic to alien, therefore the best way to fight alien is lock the locals in a bar, get wasted, then fight alien.
Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.

– Edgar Allan Poe

Anyone else seeing this post come up weird? It isn't fitting in the screen like normal?

Anyways, our go to movie was Rounders with Matt Damon. Such a great movie. Otherwise it is typically sports of some kind.

Are you reading it on a mobile device?

Anyways, Rounders is a great choice! Very underrated movie.

Shaun of the Dead is a good one. It also begins in a pub and has its climactic scene in a pub.

The Big Lebowsky is another good one. A couple of beer references.

Ghostbusters and/or Caddyshack are recommended, as well. It would almost be like having Bill Murray over to schmooze while you played cards.

Usually I just put on the AMC channel and have that going on whatever movie. But some good ones I like for this kind of thing is old Three Stooges movies, Dumb & Dumber, Old School. But if around the holidays it A Christmas Story playing nonstop.

Watch The Jerk and The Holy Grail with a few beers and laugh.
And if you are old like me, drink more than a few beers and watch Pink Floyd's The Wall. Of course you have to have the sound up very loud.

How about doing the Scarface Shuffle? Every time the F bomb is dropped in the movie Scarface, take a drink. You'll get hammered pretty quick.
