I hope this doesn't come across as a vanity post, or me fishing for compliments. But I've got a new BeerBorg blog entry up. It's mostly for the benefit of our eager new brewers, but I think it's something everyone needs to be mindful of.

Thanks for checking it out.

Good post Dave. I took a different approach. Went all "mad scientist" early on, and it was educational to a point, if you don't mind drinking some pretty questionable beer. Ultimately though, I agree with this quote from your post: "While it sounds contradictory, you’ll make faster progress if you slow down at first." I don't think it's all that contradictory though. If you jump in the deep end of a pool, having never swam before, you might be able to figure out how to keep from going under, but learning to swim is a lot easier in water you can stand in.

I love this post oly because to me your analogy is about getting the process/methods of your brewing day down first as a new brewer. Knowing where the deep end is when you are first learning how to swim, how to stay afloat and getting a rhythm down between limbs all must be learned before you try swimming across the lake or river; in short what your limits are.

Getting equipment, sanitizing, measuring and all "procedural" stuff nailed down first is what I learned from reading the other forum as a new brewer and a lot of that came from our new blogger.

He's the man. :)

Aww, c'mon, Dave. You just ruined all the fun that I have with nOOb's who want to throw 7 pounds of brown sugar into a West Coast Pale Ale to make it a high ABV brew.

Shit. Now I have to go down to the LHBS and prey on the nOObs that walk in there.

Wouldn't that be better with a brown ale? Might try it this weekend. Dark or light brown sugar?
Excellent entry Dave.

Well, you're just an idiot if you do this.

Five pounds is plenty.
