Lucky guy! Wish hops grew well down south.

You've got higher humidity, but lower overall heat in the summer down there. It sure may not feel like it, though. Mug-gy! It doesn't get as cold down there in the winter. You're short day where I'm intermediate, in onion talk. Don't know how the daylight hours would effect things. The humidity may invite mildew problems. If you haven't tried, give it a go.

This is how it goes. I'll be picking like this through first frost. They never come on all at once. So far, we've had some good rain and humidity this spring and summer. These are the hoppiest smelling hops I've grown.

Picked another handful. Definitely the hoppiest smelling, and tasting, hops I've grown. Yeah I ate a cone. Chewed it up good. Hops then sweet now my lips burn a little.

I bet you couldn't taste anything else for quite a while. I wasn't expecting 'sweet' to be one of the descriptors either.

My comet plant is my newest, but it's doing better than any of my other plants this year except for the neomexicanus (native to the desert southwest).

I was really looking forward to making a batch with my comet hops. It looked like I was going to get several ounces (I think I got 5 or 6 from my neomexicanus). The comet hops were about two weeks from being ready to harvest when we got a prediction of canyon winds (they sometimes gust >100mph). But this bine is on the leeward side of my house and I had just hurt my knee, so I thought I'd wait.

The gusts "only" got up to 99 mph (the highest officially measured gust was very close to my house). Several of my neighbors lost trees. My maple lost a bunch of limbs but actually somehow kept most of its leaves.

The comet bine was basically completely shredded. Nothing at all was there (maybe about 6 inches still above ground).
