How much have you brewed in 2019?

Post by RickBeer »

Thread guidance: create one (and only one) post and continuously edit it throughout the year, adding your ongoing brewing adventures. Generally people add the date, style of beer, size of batch, and any other stats or info you would like to keep, along with a running total at the end of the thread. That's about it...

:muahaha:

Brewed my first batch of 2019 on 7/18/19, a 2.5 gallon Oatmeal Stout all grain. Followed that with a porter, a brown, apricot wheat, a black IPA, a brown, and an IPA. Total of 17.5 gallons in 2019.

In Fall 2018, I brewed 6 batches in September and October for my son's wedding in early December (dinner night before), and then my wife and I spent 2019 drinking the remaining beers. Was ready to brew in April, but got sick visiting son #2, and just when I felt better had a pipe burst at our cottage followed by very high water. Building dikes and installing pumps took May into early July (including building dike for elderly neighbor, which then protects us).

Beer inventory is very low, supplementing with Founder's All Day IPA, Founder's Centennial, Founder's Mosaic Promise, and Bell's Oberon.

You're my hero! :) I've never even seen 54 gallons of beer. lol I will, however, except the 55 gallon challenge for 2019. (Just as soon as I find out if my first ever batch even comes out.) Still learning. But seriously, great job!!!

I haven't brewed yet, but I'm aiming for Saturday.

I'm also aiming to actually brew less this year. Two reasons:

1) I want to drink less beer because I am serious about losing weight this year. It's too easy to drink more beer than I should (with attendant empty calorie snacks) if there's always beer waiting. So I'll keep the pipeline flowing, but just slow it down a little. And maybe brew more lagers than before.

2) I want to concentrate on some other things besides beer this year. My brewing focus will be trying my hand at some Belgian styles, and I'll still be brewing some of my tried and true recipes. But I have other interests that will demand my time and energy, so a couple of brew days a month should do it.

1/8/19 - FedoraDave's American Ale - 5 gallons
1/17/19 - Wilbur's Orval - 3 gallons
1/22/19 - PacTiki Pale Ale - 3 gallons

Ahh... another sad year for me last year. Lowest brewing production ever, with 3 3-gallon brews to my name. But, since I am now in the process of assembling my first set of kegging equipment, and since I've found that bottling is one of the main reasons I no longer brew as much, maybe the fates will align for me this year....

2010: 77.5 gallons on 33 brews
2011: 54 gallons on 21 brews
2012: 38.5 gallons on 15 brews
2013: 22.5 gallons on 9 brews
2014: 24.5 gallons on 9 brews
2015: 18.5 gallons on 8 brews
2016: 9.5 gallons on 4 brews
2017: 12 gallons on 5 brews
2018: 9 gallons on 3 brews

2019:
1/20: #110: Amber Ale - 5 gal - Ferment 1/20
2/17: #111: Kolsch/Light Ale - 5 gal - Ferment 2/17
3/10: #112: Simcoe Brut IPA - 5 gal - Ferment 3/10
6/23: #113: Wakatu IPA (gluten free) - 5 gal - Ferment 6/23
7/27: #114: Irish Stout (gluten free) - 5 gal - Ferment 7/27
9/1: #115: Brown Dragon Ale - 5 gal - Ferment 9/1; Kegged 12/15
12/15: #116: English IPA - 5 gal - Ferment 12/15; Kegged 1/5/20

Total: 35 gallons (whoo-hoo! already more than any of the last 6 years!)

My goals are not very lofty. I joined that kickstarter campaign for BEERMKR. The unit is estimated to be shipped in March 2019. I'd like to make at least one batch a month on that little 1 gallon contraption. That would put me at a meager 10 gallons for 2019.

I'm more interested in how that gadget works. So put me down for about 10 twelve packs or so for 2019.

Jan 2 - Helles Bock (all-grain) - 2.5 gallons
Feb 10 - Jalapeno Stout (extract) - 1 gallon
Mar 3 - IPL (extract) - 4 gallons
Apr 25 - NEIPA (all-grain) - 4 gallons
May 27 - Hard Lemonade (extract) - 1 gallon
July 21 - Double IPA (extract) - 4 gallons (lifetime batch #100!)
Sep 6 - Cal Common (all-grain) - 3 gallons
Nov 10 - IPA (extract/steep) - 3 gallons

TOTAL - 22.5 gallons

I've settled into brewing about 8-10 batches per year (about once every 5-6 weeks). This year was 8 batches. A mix of extract and all-grain. Usually I brew "half-size" batches that go into my 3-gallon keg. Occasional 4-gallon batches (keg most of it, bottle the rest), and occasional 1-gallon stovetop experimental batches for recipes that I don't want to have drink gallons of.

2019 is my ninth year of brewing (started w/ a Mr. Beer kit, and at the old MB forum), I brewed BATCH #100 this summer.

Previous totals:
2019 - 22.5 gallons
2018 - 24 gallons
2017 - 25 gallons
2016 - 33 gallons
2015 - 36 gallons
2014 - 40 gallons
2013 - 40 gallons
2012 - 34 gallons
2011 - 19.5 gallons (start of hobby)
