Storage time for a yeast cake

Post by teutonic terror »

I kegged my blonde ale Saturday and saved the yeast cake for an IPA I planned
on doing Sunday but I didn't get done.

It's been in my keezer at 38F, in the bucket, airlock still in the lid and an inch or two of beer
on top of it since.
Wondering if eight days before I reuse it is too long?

I’ve gone 10 days with no problems but only once. I asked about it years back and don’t remember who told me (inkleg maybe) that he’d gone longer than that.

In a 38° keezer, bucket with a little layer of untracked beer on it?
I’d use it, but not the whole thing. If your IPA is in the 6-7% range two one cup scoops will get the job done. Scoop it out into a sanatized quart jar (Mason wide mouth works the best) and allow it to warm up closer to pitching temperature. Just rest the lid on the jar as it will build pressure as it warms.

I think it will be fine. I store my recovered yeast in ball jars in the fridge.

Never mind, there it is.
