Labor Day 'cue plans, anyone?

Labor Day 'cue plans, anyone?

Post by FedoraDave »

I like ribs, and I make pretty good ribs, if I do say so myself. And I may make a couple racks on Monday, but I also want something else, and I'm thinking of a pork loin. I don't see why I couldn't do both ribs and pork loin at the same time. High-maintenance smoking, no doubt, but certainly worth it later in the year when I heat up those frozen vacuum-sealed packets of yummy pig meat.

It is both a blessing and a curse that I am the only one around here who appreciates smoked pork. Sure, I get all of it to myself, but I do love having people eat and appreciate my food.

So what's going on the grill/smoker for you this weekend?

Not really sure what I'm doing just yet but it'll likely include drinking some homebrew.
I'll probably put something on the pit. It's expected to be 96 on Monday so I don't plan on spending too much time outdoors.
Everyone have fun, stay safe and enjoy some free time (if you have can).

I'll definitely be drinking some homebrew. I've got a keg of 9/Fifteen Pale Ale that should be ready to tap by Sunday. I'm taking a vacation day Friday, and I don't work the first Saturday of the month, so I've got a four-day weekend! I have a lot of errands to run, including shopping for the above pig meat, and hitting my LHBS for my next two batches. Then some trivial stuff like getting a haircut, buying some new socks, paying the mortgage, heating and electric bills.... You know, stupid stuff like that.

I may have to cook outside if we lose power. Otherwise I'll just be keeping an eye on the weather and the boat.

I still have dreams about that brisket you brought to Asheville. It was the best brisket I'd ever had and I could stop eating it even though I was stuffed! :10:

I think I'm going to go to the farmers market on Saturday morning and get some fresh corn and some other veggies that I can roast and cook some ribs on the grill low and slow. I've been asking for a smoker but haven't got one yet from SWMBO.

Also I'm going to  and :mow:

Got a pork butt ready to go on the smoker Sunday...don't know which yet, the electric or the charcoal.

Gonna have an old buddy of mine over and I'm gonna quaff a few of my Fresh Squeezed clone's that
I kegged about 4 weeks ago and are finally starting to carb and mature!
One awesome beer if this is what it tastes like fresh! :D
Gonna brew a Sorachi Ace recipe Monday and we're leaving for Ocean City MD next Sunday!

I see Lowe's, in my area, has the CharGriller Kamado Akorn on sale this week for $269! Worth a serious look.

I bought two racks of baby backs, but I don't know if the weather is going to co-operate on Monday. The tropical storm may hit sometime this afternoon and last through Monday afternoon. So I dunno.

I did cook four small pork tenderloins yesterday, offset heat on the gas grill. Grilled some potato wedges, too. Delicious lunch for me and The Bhoy-o while we watched NCAA football, and I sliced up the rest of the pork, vacuum-sealed individual-sized portions, and tossed them in the chest freezer. Gonna have a lot of good meals out of all that this winter.
