My latest- Galaxy/Amarillo/Citra

Post by losman26 »

This is my first time using Galaxy hops. I tried a Galaxy Pale ale at this bar, and loved it. Anyways, here's a recipe I did, slightly modified from the original. If I had to this over again, I would have used wlp-001 instead. My OG was 1.057 instead of 1.063. FG was 1.011. For some reason, my wort didn't evaporate as much as how it was calculated, so I ended up with an extra .75 gal. I'm hoping to have this sucker carbonated in time for a party on Sunday.

9 lbs 14.8 oz Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 4 72.0 %

I don't know what Galaxy is like but I do know I like Citra and Amarillo together. Looks like a tasty one to me.

Looks really tasty! Are you using Acidulated Malt for pH adjustment?

not sure if it's even necessary, but I took a recipe online that I saw which used the hops I have in the freezer, and modified it slightly. Looking back on it, I don't even think I used it.

I LOVE Galaxy hops. If you have ever had a Tallgrass 8 bit, that is the hop they use.
15 minutes is too long for the whirfloc. That will denature it and you won't get as much clarification as you would if you went 5 to 10 minutes. I always drop mine in at 5.
I know a lot of the bottles sold have directions that say 15 minutes but they are wrong. The manufacturer recommends no more than 10. Denny Conn pointed this out on the AHA forum.

Yeah this one seems pretty cloudy, probably attributed to adding the whirlfloc for 15 mins. I plan on filtering this batch anyways.
