We got some in beer mail a while back and used it in an English Brown Ale. It was a year old but Beersmith said there was still enough viability to pitch with.
Brewed on 8/21 and the LBK is sailboating smooth on the surface today. From the brew notes: 8/21/13 pitched wort temp 82F og = 1.052/1.055adj 84F w/ Refratometer reading today 1.019
I roused it gently this AM but still no obvious activity.
I am used to seeing surface bubbles/floaties on every batch to date and this one just looks different.
Not anxious to perv the beer but worried about losing my co2 layer through the vents it's so calm in there.
Have some Nottingham if needed.

Can u see any trub at all forming on the bottom? I have not used them specifially, but I have had wort ferment with narry a krausen and came out beer.

Oh yeah I should have said that, duh. Yes there is a ton of trub after just these few days and I did get a decent krausen it is just that everything happened in a few days then stopped.
Even on stuck fermentations I've seen stuff on the surface this one is totally new to me.
Again mostly worried if I'l lose my co2 layer/fear of infection; that's why I don't want to perv it if I don't need to.

Ive used it before and like it a lot. I used it exclusively when i first started because i like the spiciness. Ive since gone with styles of yeast but right now your at 4.7ish for an english style so I dont think its to far off. I fermented at 68 to 70 with it. When fermented cooler I dont think the spiciness comes thru.

Just leave it alone, don't open it til 2.5 weeks in to check it. You have trub, it's working. I've experienced it, worried about it, wanted to open it and repitch but the borg helped me when I was a young pup. You will have brew as long as you have trub.

"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain

Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

I've used it and it can ferment rapidly and it will flocculate quickly and leave a solid trub and clear beer. I like the spicy/bready flavors it makes too.
