King Of The Mountain
Entered my Brown Ale in the King Of The Mountain competition, same recipe I entered in Homebrew Alley IX, which scored a 19. Stayed home from going out to the camper and did some much needed yard work today, then went to the awards ceremony at Willoughby Brewing this evening. Well took Bronze with this batch, changed nothing in the recipe, just how and when it was bottled and submitted. Scored 32 from one judge 33 from the other.

Wow what a wonderful picture of Donna and a Circus Clown.
That's great Steve! Love the design of the medal. Wonder why the point swing? Infected bottle?

Re: King Of The Mountain
One of the biggest points was overcarbonated, this one was bottled off the keg not much before the submission date and with the Beer Gun, the other was before I figured out that the other 2 kegs were backfeeding pressure even though I set the reg. to 4 lbs and used the bottling wand. About a month after the HBAIX I had a bottle bomb of one of those I was holding onto for a future submission. I had maybe about 10 bottles left and uncapped and recapped them chilled down and drank, as I poured them they were 75% fizz till it settled then was able to pour more. Tasted ok but way over carbed. Like my Xmas Ale I brought to Nashville but more over carbed.
And by the way Donna got a good laugh from your comment!!!!

I remember you talking about the back feeding in Nashville. BJCP will ding you for EVERYTHING out of the guidelines. Glad the carbonation was "more to style" on the others.
Give Donna a big Borg hugs for us.

Congrats Steve. I'm very happy for you.
I'm sure that's one of many you will be getting for your beers.

Just posted the results there were 17 entries in American Ale and Cal Common. APA's took Gold and Silver. Cali Common got HM.

Re: King Of The Mountain
Congratulations! It's nice getting the recognition.
It can be remarkable how scores can vary with different judges. In the times when I get a low score, I just go with assurance from podcasts where I have heard people like Charlie Papazian and Jamil enter beers that won awards in NHC, and then score in the low 20s in another competition. With some judges, I don't know what it would take to make them happy.

Pretty neat!
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...
