I fully understand the difference between wants and needs. I bought my conical because I wanted it. I agree the SS looks to be vastly superior to the stout I bought. And frankly, I don't think you would see a lot of difference between your brew bucket and a conical. I can tell a difference between beer fermented in plastic and beer fermented in SS though.

Fortunately my basement maintains 66 to 68 year round. I recently discovered that a high velocity fan I bought at Sam's club will bring the temperature down from 75 to 68 during extremely active fermentation. So now it is my practice to run the fan on my conical the first 4 or 5 days after pitching. This is really fortunate because I already have a deep freeze, beer fridge, and kegerator on the basement circuit. I really don't want to put another compressor on it. So far I haven't tripped the breaker which amazes me. The fan is a squirrel cage design and it does kick out some significant wind.
