Patriot IPA

Post by rlbthree »

Trying to jazz up a deluxe Patriot Lager refill kit

1 can Patriot Lager
1 soft pack pale lme
1 lb light dme

Steeping grains:
1/4 lb crystal 10L
1/4 lb crystal 60L

Hops:
1/2 oz Citra - 60 min
1/4 oz Citra - 30 min
1/4 oz Citra - 15 min
1 oz Citra - 5 min

I used the yeast that came with the refill kit.

I steeped the grains at 160 for 30 minutes. Then brought it almost to a boil and added the lme and dme. Started the boil and hop additions. I added the can of Patriot Lager at about 5 min. OG was 1.064.

Thinking of calling it Patriot IPA or Patriot Pale Ale, any other suggestions for a name?

As an American Homebrewer, you have the freedom to brew as you wish.

How about Freedom IPA?

It looks like a real good brew btw!

Beer I made with 2 cans of that stuff, so similar amounts of malt, but less crystal sweet, and 1oz of hop stand citra and Nottingham yeast at 57-59 degrees was quite delicious, was nice and with lots of peach and grapefruit. And all gone unfortunately.

I'm drinking a beer more similar to this, except again without any crystal, just 1# of dme and 1 can of the patriot, and 1oz of Simcoe 1/2oz@20 minutes and 1/2oz hop stand and also Nottingham. And it's also delicious.

Too bad all the 2-1 cans I bought are now gone, as is the product. I would have bought more on sale.

The extra bittering hops should help balance out the crystal you added, and I can say that it a good hme to build such a thing from - so what you made should be tasty I think.
