I put my nibs into my jug today.

I racked a gallon of my Brown Porter into a gallon jug and added .8 oz of cacao nibs that had been soaked in vodka. It was my first time and I'll never forget it!

I've used vanilla beans the same way but haven't tried cocoa nibs.

Did you use chocolate malt as well? Curious to hear what kind of flavor it gives your beer.

It seemed a little strange soaking my nibs in vodka but after a while my nibs started to smell just like chocolate.

I did use chocolate malt and I also used Maris Otter for the base grain.

I'm finding it really hard difficult to keep this thread PG rated.

All of this will be in Ron's next romance novel. He missed his calling as a writer.

Did you rack the whole thing, vodka and all? Or strain out the nibs?

Love to follow up on your results, I've always just tossed the nibs straight in.

I strained them out and put them in a sanitized hop sack.
I only soaked them for an hour. I was worried about an infection. I would have tossed them right in but I thought they were not in need of sanitizing,
I plan on leaving the nibs in for 7 days and then bottling.

I'm going to soak some more in vodka to make an infusion( is that the right word ?) that I can add if I need more chocolate flavor.

I can't imagine how your nibs got in your jug, but I suggest you see a specialist immediately for a nib removal procedure so your jug is the way it was meant to be.

sounds painful
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber

Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."
