Maris Otter Citra smash

Post by Banjo-guy »

I am getting inspired by JimH's Maris Otter Falconers Filght smash.
I think my next all grain will be with MO and citra.
I think I'll split it and try one gallon with another hop just to learn how another hop tastes with Maris Otter.

I on a LIRR train right now and can't make up the recipe but that's my plan.

How does this look? I am not sure if the hops are being added at the best times.
It fits the profile for an American Pale Ale. The color is a little too light. I could add some Brown Malt, or chocolate to darken the color, but then it wouldn't be a smash.

Maris Otter-Citra Smash
American Pale Ale

4 lbs 4.0 oz Pale Malt, Maris Otter

0.25 oz Citra - Boil 30.0 min

0.25 oz Citra - Boil 15.0 min

0.25 oz Citra - Boil 5.0 min

1.0 pkg Safale American #US-05)

0.25 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Dry Hop 2.0 Days

Est Original Gravity: 1.055 SG
Est Final Gravity: 1.013 SG
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 5.5 %
Bitterness: 35.5 IBUs
Est Color: 4.3 SRM

Yeah, I don't really care what color it is.
A small amount of chocolate would add some flavor I think. I've been reading that Maris Otter is pretty tasty all by itself.
