Washed yeast storage containers

Post by philm00x »

I have some glass spice jars with plastic screw-on lids that I'm thinking about using to store my washed yeast. They are a lot more compact than say bottles or mason jars so they will clear up a lot of space in the fridge. Do y'all think they would be satisfactory as a storage container? Maybe with a piece of aluminum foil between the lid and the jar to help ensure a good seal?

i have used baby food jar that i got free off to craigslist.
i washed yeast for about two years.
i am not planning on doing anymore

i will use dry yeast for the first batch then pitch another batch of beer on the yeast cake.
so i can at least get two batches out of one packet.

i do think the plastic tops will hurt, sanitized is sanitized.
leave a little liquid on top of yeast will help
imho

Sterile plastic wrap would probably work better than foil, kind of like plumbers' teflon tape.
