14 lbs eh? Pretty heavy when it's full of beer then. Would be difficult for me since I move mine to cold crash and keg.

I do, too. I have an attached rec room/office where I ferment but I do everything else in the kitchen.

I bet if you asked nicely Roger would come lift it for you.

Right?
I would but there are strings.
The one and only string is to show up in Asheville!

I put a few ice bottles in a cooler, and the temp lowers within a couple of minutes to the target temp. I'm using this without the neoprene jacket too. The only thing that is confusing is to when to dump the trub???
I usually dump my trub once primary fermentation is completely done. Generally a week does the trick.

Son of a b****! I just measured my fermentation fridge and it's an inch too narrow to hold this due to the compressor :x

I don't really want to buy a new fridge and I'm happy with my temp control set up in this one so this is now scratched.

I'm now thinking about moving from BIAB to an actual mash tun and will start a new thread appropriately. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise as this will change the way I brew forcing me to learn a new system instead of just changing my fermenter.

Bummer as you would have enjoyed this little toy.
I've thought of moving to the 'old' method but don't think I want to go back as I remember my early days of it and do enjoy the simplicity of BIAB. Still, it would be fun to see how my same recipes would turn out.

That's what I am thinking. Plus I feel pretty dialed in on my BIAB beers (you schleps seem to like 'em) so it might be fun to get out of my comfort zone.

Had a few minutes while waiting for the Easter meal so I decided to drill my SS Brewtech and add a thermowell. Took all of 3 minutes. I had trouble finding a 17mm carbide bit but Brewtech sells it and I already had the thermowell when I bought the fermenter knowing I'd do this one day. However, since I have a Fermostat with temp control, I won't be using the thermometer that came with the kit.
Didn't worry about the outside but did use the wife's light emory board to smooth out the very small and hardly noticeable rough edges. Filled it with water and let it sit 30 minutes and no leaks so now it's full of PBW awaiting the next brew day.
I maybe could have dropped it about 1/2" lower but this is at about the 3.75 gallon mark and I never use this for anything but 6 gallon ferments so it's all good.

Took a few quick and ugly picks.

Nice. Glad you got this done. I'm glad that I was able to solve the temp control issue on mine as well - that was a big deal. Now I just need to use it!

I forgot what you did to yours. Should you, or anyone else who has this bucket, want to buy the thermowall and drill a hole, I can ship you the bit to use as long as you ship it back. :wow:

I had a hole drilled into the lid of mine so I could put my Thermowell down that way.
