A moment of silence.....my wife just killed this keg. I have 1 bomber saved and that's it. I have orders from her to make it again.

I'm finally thinking about my next brew and I think this may be it. I need to make sure I get Nugget for bittering this time since I goofed last time.
But I keep seeing Fresh Squeezed on the shelves too so I want to buy some. Oh, the hardships we deal with...

Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
Well....you could do both. Buy some, and drink it while your clone is fermenting. I'm on my second one tonight, the third will be in my glass in about 15 minutes. They are just so good!!!

Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
I might do this. But with Amarillo instead of Citra and Simcoe instead of Mosiac. That would be more my thang.
Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
I do love the combination of Simcoe and Amarillo so I don't think you can go wrong there.
Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
*bump*
I think I've decided to revisit this one since I goofed the first time and used Magnum instead of Nugget to bitter it. I haven't had one in quite a while either so this would be a nice addition to the pipeline.

Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
It's been on my re-do list too but it keeps getting pushed back. I think I'm going to wait to spring but having had the real thing recently, I realized, mine, though enjoyable, just wasn't close enough.
I can say it goes great with crawfish and I think I'll time a batch for when the season is kicking in.

Which reminds me that I need to plan another crawfish boil!
Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
Now I'm crunching the numbers for a 5.5G batch. I plan on this being the first brew using my new mash tun so I have a lot of numbers to figure out. Strike water, sparge amounts, etc.
I just ran the numbers through BeerSmith along with my own calculations and I think I've got it dialed in. I'm going to go back and re-read the thread to see if there were any "aha!" moments I need to be aware of. Aside from using the right hops this time....

Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
As I keep thinking about brewing this one I started thinking that I'll keg 2.5G and bottle the rest so I can share. Then I started thinking about what I would do for a label.
Then I remembered that I did a label last time that I really liked and will re-use when the time comes. Why change that which doesn't need to be changed, right?

Re: Fresh Squeezed IPA Clone
Paul,
Since you brewed this "big size" last time I thought I'd ask: Did you feel that the aroma needed a boost? I know that you mentioned that you might use Nugget to bring out some more orange, but in general, was the amount of dry hop sufficient?
I recall mine being surprisingly strong given the low hop volumes used.
Now that I think about it, I think I'm going to stick with the amount listed which is just over 1oz Citra dry. It seems low for a 5G batch but I used 1/2oz for the 3G batch I made and I recall it was pretty good. Plus, I have a Mosaic Pale Ale and a Nelson Sauvin Pale going right now that were heavily dry hopped so even if this one is lighter, it will be a nice mix in the pipeline.
So....nothing to see here, move along....
