Yes and No Rick. It just depends on how you want your set up.

Pot no welds = nothing in the way of the bag while stirring and removing.

Pot one weld = valve at the bottom, nice for draining or adding a pump at some time. Unless it's a higher weld for a temperature gauge which can be nice. Just remember it's there when stirring grains and removing the bag.

Pot two welds = see combination of the above.

All the above will make good beer. But it REALLY helps to have a bag made for the size of your pot. These are some great bags.

Thanks Inkleg.

I haven't really done much research, more of a "I may do this someday". I can always get the two-weld pot for that sale price in their "scratch and dent" inventory, because I can pick through it.

Rick, I have just a normal 10 gallon aluminium pot that I've been using with my BIAB brewing and it works just fine. At some point I may decide to get a pot with a valve or two in it for a thermometer and to make it easier to transfer the wort but my stick thermometer and using an auto-siphon works well for me right now. You and I live close enough that if you would like to get together some time to brew I'd be more then happy to show you what I have and my process for BIAB.

I have their 2-weld 9-gal pot with the spigot and thermometer, and there is nothing sticking into the pot to catch a bag on. It’s a cheap pot, the metal is kind of thin, but you’re not going to get a premium pot for that price. I love mine. I have always used it on my stove, but in 2 weeks my plan is to use it with my new burner. I expect no problems. Get the false bottom, you’ll be glad you did. It helps prevent scorching, even with extract brews.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm good on pots, but I just ordered my birthday present. Keg kit!

Picked up the $25 refractometer and the corny yesterday on the way home. First new corny and is it ever shiny.

And now I am trying to keep my eyes off the Cyber Monday deals:

I keep gravitating towards that $39 stir plate....
