How much difference does a week make
I dry hopped my Sublimely Self Righteous today and while I don't normally take a reading, I wanted a taste so bad I did. It's at 1.030 and should fnish at 1.021. I've never had a beer that would drop that much in the last week and wonder if it may be stuck. Its really too early to tell but I'm hoping it's not near done.
But, it did taste delish!

You brewed this two weeks ago? What was your mash temperature? That does seem a little high.

2 weeks ago today exactly. Mashed at 152 for 70 minutes with no mash out as per the recipe I used. I'm not sure it'll go too much lower at this point. I know my hydrometer is spot on so that's not it.
The 04 took off fast and worked hard for 2 1/2 days too.

FWIW That just happened to us with 04 but we are doing LBK sized stuff so I just gave it a little tilt back and forth and waited a few more days. We were still off but not by much so I could go ahead and cold crash it.
I think my brother said that the 04 has done that to us before.

Re: How much difference does a week make
Rock your fermenter a little to roust the yeast. I have seen it go back to work after doing that.
Re: How much difference does a week make
I rock my fermenter gently on all my beers after 12 - 16 days (depending on when I remember) just for good measure. It doesn't hurt, and may help. I also don't take a reading until day 21. So, no scientific backing, just a process I do...
Re: How much difference does a week make
I've actually read this and now, I've just done this. And since I dry hopped it today, it might help to move the hops around.
Thanks all!

Re: How much difference does a week make
Well, it's only dropped to 1.026 and I'm kegging this tomorrow. It tastes awesome but the strange thing is that I feel lots of alcohol too. It'll end up just under 6.5% instead of closer to 9 but that part is just fine for me. But, this batch has been a challenge. I didn't boil off enough so I started low and ended high. I assume that's the problem with everything but I don't care as long as it tastes good. But, my curiosity is begging for answers.
Three times this past week I gave it a bit of a rocking to move things around and kept the temp between 68 & 70 (the sample was 69) so I don't see it moving anymore. As I'm kegging, I'm not concerned. Can't wait to get it carbed in my mouth.

Kegging my Levitation tomorrow and brewing my SSR. Plan on mashing at 150 and pitching on half the Levitation yeast cake. Funny how a lot of us are brewing the same beers on a different schedule.

It's not funny, it's the universe telling us what needs to be done. That or Stone Brewery is on a roll.

For a long time I've told people that if I had drink from only one brewery for the rest of my life it would be Stone.
