New, can I also use my own juice in mr beer, and brew demon

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

New, can I also use my own juice in mr beer, and brew demon

Post by aabigrick »

Hello all, I want to get started in cider making however in stead of using the flavor packet i would like to use my own juice. If I would go with the option of getting a mr. beer or a brewdemon would I be able to use juice in those machines, or would I need to use only their flavor and recipe kits? thanks

Mr. Beer and Brewdemon fermentors will ferment whatever fermentables and flavors you put inside them.

If you have recipes for batch sizes larger than batch sizes recommended for Mr B / Brewdemon ... just scale them accordingly.
Cut the ingredients for a 5G recipe in half for 2.5G fermentor.

Yes no problem using them to ferment in with anything you want to use, as Herb said figure the size and good to go.

I'm not a cider brewer, so if I'm wrong, somebody please correct me.

My understanding is that when you choose a juice for making cider, it's important that it is preservative free because the preservatives are there to keep it from fermenting.

True dat.

The additives ascorbic and malic acids are OK.

Easy to do. I press my own apples, strain the juice then boil it for 20-30 minutes or so. Cool it down and transfer it to carboy or storage jugs, works great. Add your own spices, some yeast and enjoy! 1, 2, 3 or 5 gallons, does not matter, it's all good.
Life is short, live it to it's fullest!
