On these purchases, make sure you research the warranties. Pick the longest one, and use a Citi credit card to add two years to the warranty.

Brewed in lifetime - 282.14 gallons

Don't look for the best warranty
Look for the best machine
Then add 2 years to the warranty if you can

I picked the one that matched the specs of the old one, because the collar is custom-fitted to the old one, and I don't want to have to build a new collar.

That makes sense. Did you ever find the cause of the failure, was it the compressor?

I'm actually not sure what the precise problem is, Vince. My guess is a freon leak, given the accumulation of ice, which happened rather quickly, then stopped.

A Freon leak is unlikely to be the cause of ice accumulation on the inside of the cooler (unless low refrigerant caused evaporator coil to freeze) ... still not likely
It was deffinitley not compressor failure.
Air leaking around door seal or collar (or any where else) could cause that pretty quickly.
Most likely evaporator coil froze.

I thought you got a repairman in there and determined it could not be fixed. You bought a new one without trying to fix/remedy the problem?
