Re: Twist on/off bottle capping
My understanding is that worst case scenario reusing twist off caps involves some small glass shards in the beer.

Re: Star San Hand Sanitizer
Looks like it is made by a different company.
On the plus side the ad states it is made with ethyl alcohol NOT methanol.

Re: New Brewer
I would definitely suggest using malt, hops, and yeast in the amounts and varieties required to make the beer you prefer.McBrewer wrote: Looking for recipe ideas for my next brew - Light, Citris and Pale Als are favorites

Re: New to the Borg
.......Beer seems to be really tricky as there are so many different types out there. I am fond of the darker beers (porters & stouts) where my wife is partial to light beers. We have both agreed we are not huge IPA fans or anything with a hard hoppy flavor to it. I would appreciate any recomme...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?
I'll see if I can mange to get a brew going soon. Maybe this holiday weekend. I have the ingredients for a sudo ancient Egyptian beer. No weird brewing methods for this version. Just 2-row with some wheat for the grain bill. Then comes the dates. A lot of articles speculate that dates were used in a...

Re: Split batch
I would think that if you are able to add the wort to some sort of sanitized 2 gallon+ container to "top off" then pouring one gallon in each fermenter would work. Splitting the yeast? You could pour the yeast on a sanitized surface and visually split it but just buying a second packet wou...

Re: Couple Randoms
.......2. I used some brewers liquid sugar on my 3rd brew... couldn't help wondering, what would happen if I sub'd honey for that...... Using any adjunct in brewing changes the character somewhat from an all malt beer. Adjuncts such as corn, rice, or sugar add ABV without the malt body. Some people...

Re: Anybody still using Mr. Beer?
To be clear, I didn't use steeping grains...... The steeping grains are not always necessary and would not be totally needed in your smash. Steeping grains are added for both flavor and color adjustment for many beer styles. Many but not all extract kits use them. I can totally understand how you c...

Re: Anybody still using Mr. Beer?
.....I tried one batch of DME/boiled hops beer last spring and it was ok, but not noticeably better, at least not better enough to justify the large increase in time and effort..... I do find your comment that you were not impressed with an extract, steeping grain, hop boil odd. I do not find your ...

Re: Shedu Oatmeal Stout Gravity's
I'll suggest that a suggested OG is more necessary with either all grain or mini mash brewing. With the mashing step removed and grain conversion no longer an issue you pretty much get what you get due to the dilution of the extract (and anything else in the recipe). There's also no real reason not ...

Re: BD hopped malt extract
......how will I know when it's a good idea to steep grains? The Pale Ale recipe I linked a few posts back includes steeping grain (cara red). Looking at Northern Brewer 2 gallon beer recipe kits I see they specifically mention brewing in a Brew Demon fermenter. The recipes have instructions at the...

.....What would you include if you brewed BD Red Horse Amber? Here's a couple recipes from the BrewDemon site. Sinful Swill Vienna Lager Plus and American Prophecy Ale Plus The first one uses a can of the Red Horse Mello Amber. Both of mashani's suggestions are good as well. That's assuming you mea...

Thanks guys. I get what you're saying, but I can't say I see the sense in it. Say I buy a $9 Red Horse Amber. I read how it needs... "Along with hopped malt extract, this unhopped malt will make 2-gallons of beer..." ...... Ah ha, in that case.... It has to do some with price points and s...

Re: BD hopped malt extract
Note at the bottom of the description (above customer reviews) either "Along with brewing enhancer and/or unhopped malt extract, this malt will make 2 gallons of beer" or "Along with hopped malt extract, this unhopped malt will make 2-gallons of beer. There are 4 unhopped extracts (pa...
