Re: I'm done with dark beers!

Yeah, Tom, I'm not sure I want to continue with the chocolate all that much anyway. I'm not all that much into stouts and porters, but I do want to nail down this Brown Ale. Still not what I want. And, gushing aside, I think the chocolate is bringing some bitterness to the table that I'd just as so...

Re: keg priming

I dedicated an entire post to this topic a few months back, since abandoning naturally carbonating my corny kegged beers altogether. I actually took the time to set an forget my corny keg at 12psi for over a week to make sure I knew exactly how many Co2 levels the kegged beer was at. Using a drinkin...

Re: Bumming out over upcoming surgery

Best of luck to you roger, I know a few folks who've had this done over 5 years ago and they're all very glad that they did. I don't envy the discomfort the follows any surgery, been there myself, but you'll bounce back pretty quick and be thankful that you got that out of the way.

Re: Chiller - faucet adapter question

I'd posted a DIY article on building and connecting an immersion chiller to a kitchen faucet a while ago. Build Your Own Immersion Wort Chiller I went to Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware before I found the parts needed to build my new 'Screwy's Cooler' wort cooler. The kitchen sink requires unscre...

Re: What's the worst commercial beer you've tasted?

For me it's gotta be Dale's Pale Ale in cans. Argh it was terrible, first beer I actually bought and never drank.

Re: All grain help needed.

For grain to be properly milled, it will certainly have some flour in it. What you don't want is all flour. Each grain should be cracked, many in more than one piece but not pulverized. Sometimes it takes a few batches with an efficiency check to get a good idea if the grain is milled properly. Mos...

Re: Recirculation Brewing

I must be purdy dumb... I still don't get it. To me, the pics look like all your doing is taking wort from the bottom of the pot and dumping it back on top of the grains using a (march?) pump? Like doing a sparge with the wort? This looks complicated to my simple mind.... OUCH... ok, there u did it...

Re: Pond pump

I've been sold on a prechiller and pond pump for a while now too. It's the only way to cool down wort quickly in my area during the summer. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nfzlHBsK68Q/UdETwUZGKjI/AAAAAAAAI_g/taR6XxGP3ZA/w477-h776-no/420Special+6-30-13_b.jpg I go the frozen water bottle route, sup...

Re: Recirculation Brewing

Your system is awesome! I wouldn't mind saying 'I built it myself' either. If you don't mind sharing, the High Gravity system runs about $1,200.00, what would you estimate the cost of my building it? Definitely under $900; probably around $800 or so, especially if you go 240v - you'll need half of ...

Re: Recirculation Brewing

Figured I'd post a pic of my eBIAB rig - recirculation FTW! Screwy - their system is nice, but you can build one yourself a lot cheaper if you have some time on your hands. http://imageshack.us/a/img812/6176/imag0458px.jpg Your system is awesome! Re: Recirculation Brewing

I wonder how long it takes to bring 10 gallons of wort to a boil with that system. But, it's out of my price range. Sure would make for an easier brewday. They tell me 20 minutes to heat up to mash temperature and another 10 minutes to get a good boil going. It's got a 4500 watt heating element sim...

Re: Recirculation Brewing

Hey Screwy, Welcome!! Great to see you over here.  I've been drooling over some of these RIMS and HERMS systems too. A little too much for me to bite off right now, but definitely where I want to get to. :welcome: Thanks. I signed up for the Tap Room a while back but had to figure ...

Re: Recirculation Brewing

I've been researching the 62 Quart High Gravity BIAB Electric Brewing System for my next system. I've been a gas stovetop brewer for a number of years but lately these automated brewing systems have started looking a lot more appealing than ever before. I like the idea of setting the PID controller ...
