Re: On the (brewing) road again
That makes sense. It taste good but wow, bitter strong. This will not be an easy drinker, rather drink a glass fast and hit da floor..... LOL I much prefer a brew under/around 5%. It can sit a bit, I now have 2-5 gallon and 4 2.5 gallon kegs at the ready to enjoy and 2 more batches crushed, ready fo...

Re: On the (brewing) road again
OG was higher than expected and the yeast (S-04) attenuated more than expected. I don't really understand why it was off sooo much. This was a kit I ordered, expected all grain and they shipped an extract kit so I just went with it. I added nothing extra, only used what came in the kit. Mostly I jus...

On the (brewing) road again
Trying to catch up on my (lack of) brewing the past year or so. The past couple months I've brewed/kegged 10 gallons of Honey Hard Cider at 6% (using apples from our trees), a strong/bitter IPA that should have been ~6.5 but came out at 9.7%, a Honey Kolsch at 5% (first time doing one of these), and...

Re: Honey Cider
Just checked FG... I guess it has been a while since I've done cider. It comes in at 10.25%. That is a ... little higher than I wanted. I have a feeling I should have checked the grav BEFORE I dumped in that much sugar. The oldish yeast I used dropped it down to .998.... I checked the hydrometer, it...

Wow, has it been this long? Seriously?? I just noticed, then looked at others join date. We've been a member of this social pub little over 10 years, where has the time gone?

Re: The No Post Post
I am too old now and happy with the easy way I brew, and already have bought new stuff over the years that sometime don't use much now. I can relate totally to that comment! I'm quite happy with what I wound up with (grain father), works great start to finish. But.... as I slowly grew, so did my br...

Re: What-up?

Honey Cider
I've not brewed in a good 8-9 months. After 3-4 years of little/no apples on our trees, this year I was able to pick enough to make 13 gallons of cider. Yesterday I filled 2 carboys with 5 gallons each and discovered, although I had a feeling, the packets of cider yeast are pretty much dead. One car...

Re: Kits VS DIY
I did a pear/strawberry cider kit, tried it and hated it. Put in corner and forgot about it for a while. Just plain tasted nasty, figured when I needed another keg I'd just dump it. Got to that point and figured I'd give it one last sip before dumping.... glad I did. 10 months later, all I can say i...

Re: carbing
I do the shake, rattle and roll. Connect to the tank at 18 psi, roll for a bit until the (bubbling) all but stops. Sit in storage until used, most times a couple months. I always place in chill box for 3 days before tapping. Never had cloudy beer nor over carbed. Usually comes out to my liking so it...

Re: Pictures
Mr. berryman, my snow's not as deep as your last picture, but we picked up ~20" by the time it was done. It was half ice, half snow. Took 2.5 days to clear around house and clear driveway. This stuff was hard as concrete, ran out of shear-pins.... LOL Now we're minus 8f, supposed to get really ...
