Re: How do you get to pitching temp?

I use my Therminator, which usually does an excellent job of getting it down. It's easy in the winter, in the summer sometimes I can only get it down to 70 to 75, in that case I just throw it in the fermentation fridge for a couple of hours to get it to pitching temps...not too bad though

Re: Taking another step, equipment-wise

I've always had my grain milled at the LHBS but I was wondering, what is the best way to buy and store grain? The majority of my recipes call for 23 pounds of grain so a 50 pound bag will last me about 4-6 weeks. I store mine in vittle vaults, I have varying sizes big ones for base grains and small...

Re: Taking another step, equipment-wise

Just be wary of the speed, Most drills have way too high RPM for milling grain, SO you you would have to sit and hold it at half throttle or so. You want to be somewhere under 250 RPM(Most drills are up in the 2,000 RPM range).. Also need enough power to crush the grains at the lower speeds. So not ...

Re: Do conicals ferment differently?

They do produce a different yeast profile, you are putting more pressure on the yeast which will create different flavors, I am not sure about a reduction in krausen though.

Re: Northeast IPAs - cloudy.....murky?

Yeah I do not get it and I am from that area...It does not need to be cloudy to have good hop flavor or aroma... so I do not get it...it is a gimmick

Re: Backing Off The Weeknight Beers A Bit

Three days in and no ill effects to report so far, although all this talk about not being able to drink coffee are unsettling to me. I drink mine black with no sugar and have for years, it takes me a pot of coffee, before noon, just to get me going everyday. I can honestly say that giving up my wee...

Re: Morebeer's Firestone Walker Pale 31 AG kit

Mashini that is a good point about batch size, one of the main reasons I do not buy kits, since I always base my recipes in 6 gallons, so I get only the best wort into the fermenter. Kits are always set to 5 gallons so that will make some difference

Re: Morebeer's Firestone Walker Pale 31 AG kit

I am fairly certain Matt worked directly with Morebeer to create that kit, also keep in mind it was design for you too make at home, not how he makes it at his brewery, they will not always be the same thing. On the 90 minute hop addition Matt always does a 90 min hop addition it is his thing and he...
