Re: QPB Hefeweizen
No gelatin? I think I'm in the minority of liking hefs heavy on the banana side and light on the clove side. The last time I brewed a hef was VERY early in my brewing before I could control temps and knew much about yeast. Reading your post is making me think that I might brew one up soon usi...

Re: QPB Hefeweizen
Woo-hoo! I have solved my cooling issues! The trick is to first recirculate back into the Grainfather while chilling...once it gets down below 150*, I then run the "cold" tap water (86* today  ) through my old copper wort chiller sitting in a bucket of ice water (with 2 icemaker bat...

Re: QPB Hefeweizen
If you want something different and fun sometime, try some Wyeast 3638. Thanks for the recommendation! I have tried it--I've tried just about every hefeweizen yeast I can get my hands on (since it's one of Thorn's favorite styles), and other than harvested yeast, WLP380 is probably the overall favo...

DAMN! That's a lot of beer! How long until you're taste-testing them?
You know, for QA purposes!

Re: Pricey but cool
See this is one of my gripes with all these new homebrewing apps and such. (WARNING: Grumpy Old Man rant to follow) Is it necessary to have something that tracks your beer's gravity throughout the fermentation process and sends updates to your cell phone? How does this make you a better homebrewer?...

Re: Possible new project...
Have you thought about just adding a pre-chiller to your current chiller? Just another coil that you submerge in a bucket of ice water after you get your water down however low your tap water will get it quickly?

QPB Hefeweizen
QPB stands for Q uick P ipeline B oosting, which I need right now. :) Pretty simple recipe, roughly 6 gallons post boil. I haven't decided how much I'm going to use tap water vs RO water...I've made great hefes in Pittsburgh and in New York, and NYC water is damn near RO. Pittsburgh is decidedly har...

Have a great time!
But what makes you think any of those beers are going to make it all the way home?

Re: Perfect beer in one week!
No, I haven't had a beer from one of these machines. So there's that. But I do know that the HME kits I started with can't hold a candle to my original AG recipes. And I know that bottled barbecue sauce can't hold a candle to my homemade Jack Daniels barbecue sauce. And I know that Dinty Moore Beef...

Re: It's not rocket science
That's how we should all do it. Just decide to and go for it. On a related note, I've tried Victory Hop Devil and found it not to my liking. It's very rich and typical of what I think of when I think of East Coast IPAs like Dogfish Head, too. Those are Mid Atlantic IPAs! There's actually quite a ra...

I'm brewing one of these tomorrow. Not this recipe, but a partial mash. I'm looking forward to it, this style seems to go with such a wide variety of foods. Maybe not seafood.

Re: Woo-hoo! Refilled my two 5# CO2 tanks!
Is it the LHBS that swaps them out too or someplace else? When mine are past certification I swap them at NexAir. I'll swing by about 30 minutes before they close and never show up with less than a 4 pack of Home Brew in a cardboard carrier, discreetly inside a bag. 99% of the time my #5 costs me.....

Sure is pretty! If I had a LOT more room (and especially money), I'd think about it.
Probably still wouldn't get it, but we can always dream!

Re: First time brewer, might be in trouble
Everyone here has you covered--you probably won't have the best tasting beer ever, but you will certainly have beer! And it should even be pretty good! Now, everyone who has been saying you should wait X weeks before trying your beer, because it will be much better if you give it more time is right-...
