Re: vacation

what is this 'vacation' of which you speak? I have not had one in approximately 10 years since I had to fly up north for a wedding and a funeral. since then endless work/eat/sleep/poop/misc/repeat. vacations are for rich people.

hope you have a good time.

Re: Boil Oats?

only time I used oats I roasted them a bit in the oven first then added them to a partial mash. I would think adding quick oats to your boil would be gross but I'm no expert.

Re: wish to lodge a complaint...

crisis temporarily averted... converted a hefeweizen to a 30 min boil, adjusted hops ... made a 2 gallon batch that I have used yeast that I harvested. first time doing that and tada.. it worked. after being in the fridge for almost a month, the wlp300 woke up and went nuts even without a starter. 1...

wish to lodge a complaint...

90f+ for the next 3 months and high stinking humidity... sunup temp 84f+ real feel over 100f.... god I hate florida. I got the bug to brew and have to wait until the 'man' stops using chemtrails to make the world think there's global warming by creating an artificial crisis. :/ guess I have to make ...

Re: Wheat Saison

ive done wheaton saisons too... they are one of my favs. I like to put the fermenter in a water bath with an aquarium heater and keep it at 74f the whole time with bella saison yeast. it makes some funky funks and esters. theres no real standard for what is or is not in a saison since they were farm...

Re: newbie mistake

the hose water was only used for star san.. it only made brief contact with bottles, hoses etc. I would never brew with hose water. ever. that would be disgusting and cruel treatment of the yeast. for my beer I use only the finest grocery store mineral water.. that ive got the lab analysis for the c...

Re: newbie mistake

I would rather drink the beer than dump it thanks. i'll take my chances. im over 50 and with all the food additives, exposure to asbestos in public school in Detroit for over a decade... lead based paint... lead miniatures that ...

newbie mistake

last brew session I mixed up 2.5 gals of star san. I was pressed for time so I used garden hose water. I went to use it for bottling a week later and ack! on opening the lid a huge stink of rubber.. burnt rubber wafted up from the solution. cheap garden hose that sits in sun all day mustve started b...

Re: danstar nottingham, banana smells at low temp?

I add this when doing a high grav beer, hobo wine, mead. the yeast absolutely love it. theres nothing in the vitamin that doesn't already occur...

Re: danstar nottingham, banana smells at low temp?

thanks all.. gymrat, I would never call a beer ruined unless it was infected with ecoli, or tasted like crap, or was unfixable. the one beer that came close for me was a pumkin wizbier from mrb that was next to awful on its own. I just tossed in some orange drink powder to offset the ick... and by t...

Re: danstar nottingham, banana smells at low temp?

jon.. think I pitched at 72f . had a big block of ice in cooler and managed to bring temps down to fermenting temp of 62f (inside fermenter). fermentation was vigorous. starting grav was about 1.07. after 3 days of fermentation when the krausen was beginning to settle I added d180...which of course ...

danstar nottingham, banana smells at low temp?

fermenting a Russian imperial stout. I started by rehydrating 2 packs of notty, pitched a little warmish but not overly so. since it is only a 3 gallon batch I would be only a ltitle under pitching. I fed it a multi vitamin and sacrificial yeast at start. took off like lightning in 12 hours and by d...
