Re: Electric Turkey Fryer BIAB

Are you using an extension cord? If you are, make sure it's at least a 14 gauge (12 would be better). If not, maybe it's a defective unit...

Re: Electric Turkey Fryer BIAB

I wrapped the inner pot in Reflectix insulation, and it would keep 6 gallons of wort boiling (not super hard, but boiling) just fine... With only 4 gallons, it's a nice rolling boil.

Re: It pains me to have to ask...

Natalie had her 4th round of chemo the Friday before Thanksgiving week. We are just trying to keep the spirits up and finish the last two rounds before surgery in January. She won't have any additional testing done until she's done with all six rounds of chemo, but she cannot feel the lump anymore, ...

Re: Electric Turkey Fryer BIAB

I haven't used my turkey fryer since I built my eBIAB system, but it worked great for a while... Until the controller caught on fire... Started to billow smoke, luckily I was next to it - called the company, they sent me a new controller even though it was out of warranty. Brewed 10-15 batches after...

Re: It pains me to have to ask...

Hi Andre, I was hoping you could give us an update on how Natalie is doing as well as the rest of the family. The last update on the You Care page is about a week old. I think about you all daily and am still praying for you all. I can understand if you don't feel up to it....either way, I'll conti...

Re: It pains me to have to ask...

We can hardly believe it - less than a week after setting up the fundraiser, we have already met our goal - not in a small part thanks to the awesome people of the Borg! Please continue to keep Natalie in your thoughts and prayers - we can use any help we can get!

Re: It pains me to have to ask...

It's been unbelievable how much support we have received within 24 hours of the fundraiser going live - and I'm not just talking about the money. Reaching out to us, sharing Natalie's story with friends and family, keeping us in your thoughts and prayers - all of this has been tremendously helpful. ...

It pains me to have to ask...

I have not been posting on the Borg much lately... I have not been brewing or even drinking much either - it's hard to do when you are on a roller coaster. Just over a month ago, my wife Natalie was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. It's been a tough time for our family - the kids don't really...

Re: Smoker grills! Which one!

I also own a Masterbuilt MES30 - it's a decent machine; I've done chicken, ribs, pork shoulder and whole packer brisket in it - all were very tasty. I did have a problem with mine - after owning it for 8 months or so, I was smoking 8 racks of ribs for a party, and the damn smoker just kept turning i...

Re: Under Pitch.

In the voice of the XX guy: I don't usually underpitch, but when I do, it's for a Hefeweizen... When you underpitch, you make the yeast throw a lot more esters/phenols during the growth phase, which is desirable in certain styles, and not so in others. I personally would never underpitch yeast for a...

Re: psuedo decoction with lme?

I believe you are overthinking this; if you want decoction flavor without a decoction, add half a pound of Melanoidin Malt to your recipe and use a pound or two of dark candi sugar for those plum/raisin flavors you want in a dubbel. For my dark Belgians I usually use nothing but Pilsener and Munich ...

Re: My 10BBL Brew Day in Pictures

The things a Mr. Beer kit can lead to... I haven't been following in a while; what competition was that? A BOS? I should probably know since I try to keep up on the local competitions. Just an FYI, there are a lot more crummy beers in the Longshot competition than you would think, and surprisingly ...

Re: This should be the weekend

Speaking of condensation, you may want to pick up a couple of EVA-DRY dehumidifiers on Amazon - put them into the keezer to prevent mold growth. They last a couple months between recharges (plug them in overnight).
